The President of the Republic, Zorlu Torun, said: "Shame on UEFA and FIFA because the Turkish Cypriot youth cannot participate in international sports; "Shame on UEFA, Greek Football Federation and the world", he said.
President Torun responded to the statement of the President of the Greek Football Federation, Georgios Kumas, "we will never allow the status of football in Cyprus to change and for the Turkish Cypriot youth to open up to the world".
Stating that Turkish Cypriot football was subject to an embargo by UEFA and FIFA as a result of pressure from the Greek side, President Torun noted that they are saddened by the young people's inability to open up to the world.
The President of the Republic Assembly, Zorlu Torun, received the President of the Istanbul Chamber of Industry and Commerce, Ahmet Kılınç, and the accompanying delegation.
In his address at the reception held in the honor hall, Torun said that everyone has the right to play sports, regardless of whether they are young, old, male or female.
Noting that the Turkish Cypriot football teams were members of the Cyprus Football Federation until 1955, President Torun stated that the Turkish Cypriot Football Federation was established after EOKA members said "Turks and dogs cannot enter the field".
President Torun stated that the Greek side still maintains the mentality of the Middle Ages and that UEFA and FIFA support this.
Torun emphasized that there is no justice in the world and the European Union, and they have experienced this with the embargo.
President of the Republic Assembly, Zorlu Torun, also stated in his speech that they fully support the investors from Turkey.
Ahmet Kılınç, President of the Istanbul Chamber of Industry and Commerce in the Mersin province, said that they want to contribute to industry and employment by investing in the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus.
