שוב הנאמן של Szekler: תומך באוטונומיה

Szekler Heroes are the heroes of all Hungarians who have set an example of patriotism, courage, and honor for the Hungarian people. They emphasized the Minister of Neighborhood Policy of Hungary in a memorial held on Sunday at the foot of Szekler Independence Day.

Prime Minister Kalmar recalled that the Szekler National Council declared March 10 as Szekler Freedom Day in 2012. Together with their Tolok companions, they were on a mission to overthrow the rule of the Habsburgs and make Hungary independent.

According to the Minister of Neighborhood Policy, for the people of Szekler living today, this day is not only a day of common remembrance, but also of belonging, conscious action, partnership, and self-definition of nationhood. Prime Minister Kalmar said that the date of the assassination of Szekler leaders was likely not a coincidence.

"It could have been a threatening message that anyone who remembers on March 15 wants to reignite the flame of the struggle for freedom and resist the existing power," he emphasized.

This is what the War of Independence 1848-49 and the example of the Szekler heroes and their companions present. Their goal was to achieve national self-determination, for which they gave their lives, setting an example of courage and loyalty for future generations. He added that "they say that one of the characteristics of our nation is lack of trust. Nevertheless, our revolutions break this."

According to Frank Kalmar, the autonomy of Szeklerland is a commitment to survival, and therefore this "demand" cannot be abandoned.

"Szekler people have the right to solve their problems, live in peace and security in their homeland, use their language freely, preserve and honor their culture, identity, and traditions," he declared.

He stated that the most important strategic goals set by the motherland for the Szekler community or any other Hungarian communities beyond the borders must not be relinquished. He emphasized that interests, representation, and rights should be presented and strengthened in the most extensive ways and forms.

Szeklerland is a historical and ethnographic region in present-day Romania, mainly inhabited by Szeklers, a sub-group of Hungarians. Its cultural center is the city of Targu Mures (Marosvasarhely), the largest settlement in the region. Originally, the name Szeklerland referred to the territories of several autonomous Szekler settlements in Transylvania. The absolute privileges of the settlements were abolished, and the settlements were replaced by districts in 1876. Together with Transylvania, Szeklerland became part of Romania in 1920, in accordance with the Treaty of Trianon.
