An Explosion Causes Fire and Injures Elderly Couple in Turkey
An explosion in an apartment in Tarsus, Turkey, resulted in a fire and injury of two residents. Mustafa Rıfkı Kurt and his wife, Ayşe Kurt, both patients with Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD), were hurt in the incident.
Emergency response teams comprising police, firefighters, and 112 Emergency Health teams were immediately directed to the area upon notification. Fortunately, the blaze was quickly extinguished with the teams' intervention.
The injured elderly couple was taken to Tarsus State Hospital for treatment. According to one of the residents, Murat Yalçın, the explosion occurred during the early hours of the morning, and they woke up with the blast. Yalçın further stated that the explosion came from the oxygen cylinder.
Apart from the injury of the couple, the apartment where the explosion took place and some adjacent buildings incurred damage to their walls and shattered windows.
Authorities are still investigating the incident and determining the cause of the explosion. Meanwhile, the injured couple is still on the road to recovery.
