EU Ambassador in Sudan Attacked in Breaking News Incident
EU Ambassador to Sudan Attacked, Clashes Continue between Army and RSF
The ongoing conflicts between the Sudanese army and the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) have resulted in more than 180 deaths and over 1,800 injuries, according to the United Nations (UN) Special Representative for Sudan, Volker Perthes. The situation remains volatile and unpredictable.
Meanwhile, the European Union (EU) High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Vice-President of the European Commission, Josep Borrell, announced that the EU Ambassador to Sudan, Aidan O'Hara, was attacked at his home. Borrell condemned the attack and called it a "gross violation of the Vienna Convention". He added that the security of diplomatic facilities and personnel is the primary responsibility of the Sudanese authorities and an obligation under international law.
The health status of O'Hara has not been disclosed yet. The clashes have been ongoing since April 15, and it remains to be seen how the balance of power will shift in the future. As of now, stability and security are major concerns for Sudan.
