Land Control Inspector Caught Accepting Bribe in Uzbekistan
On April 12th, a land control inspector of the agricultural department under the Uzbekistan district administration was caught accepting a $4,000 bribe. The exchange was meant to secure 3 hectares of land for agricultural purposes through an open electronic platform, with documents to be issued accordingly.
The incident was uncovered during a search operation conducted by law enforcement officers. The Fergana regional office of the Department for Combating Economic Crimes has since opened a criminal case under Paragraph “a”, Article 168-3 and Article 211 of the Criminal Code. Investigations are ongoing.
Despite the incident, a representative of the administration has promised to assist with land acquisition through the open e-platform. The use of such platforms has become increasingly common in Uzbekistan, as the government seeks to modernize and streamline processes. However, instances of corruption continue to arise, highlighting the need for continued vigilance and anti-corruption measures.
