Turkish Foreign Ministry Calls on Citizens in Sudan to Stay Indoors amid Ongoing Crisis
The Turkish Ministry of Foreign Affairs has urged Turkish citizens living in Sudan to remain inside their homes and to contact the Turkish Embassy in Khartoum or the Consular Call Center of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in case of an emergency. The statement, which was posted on the Ministry's social media platforms, revealed that the situation in Sudan is being closely monitored amidst ongoing clashes.
The Ministry has reminded Turkish citizens in Sudan that the airspace is currently closed and that the security situation in the country is not suitable for travel. They have advised citizens to stay indoors until further news.
Turkish citizens in Sudan have been provided with two phone numbers to contact during an emergency: the Turkish Embassy in Khartoum phone number is "+249 90 094 27 38", and the Consular Call Center of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs phone number is "+90 312 292 29 29".
The crisis in Sudan began with armed clashes between the Sudanese army and paramilitary NGO groups in the capital of Sudan, Khartoum, and in other cities. The conflict stemmed from a disagreement between the army and the HDK regarding the military security reform, which aimed to fully integrate the HDK into the army. The conflict has resulted in over 56 civilian casualties and 595 injuries, with both soldiers and civilians being affected.
The Turkish Ministry of Foreign Affairs has stated that they will continue to closely monitor the situation in Sudan and provide information as it becomes available.
