President Novák praises Greek Catholics for bringing Eastern spirituality to the West

Hungarian President Katalin Novák has emphasized the importance of staying true to Hungary's spiritual and material heritage during her recent visit to the Greek Catholic Museum in Nyíregyháza. She highlighted the significance of Greek Catholics in Hungarian culture, describing them as bearers of Eastern Christianity to Western Christian culture. In her speech, Novák stressed that Christianity has been a point of reference that has preserved the country's values and institutions through history, and that churches play a crucial role in providing spiritual support, education, and healing. She further stated that Hungarian statehood is contemporaneous with Hungarian Christianity, and that the interaction of national and Christian thought is fundamental to understanding Hungarian values. Novák thanked the work done by churches in Hungary and noted that the country has strengthened and valued its churches in recent years, with 3,000 churches renovated and 200 new prayer houses built in the Carpathian Basin, and more than 240,000 students in church schools.
